FC Barcelona’s

The General Assembly of members has given its resounding approval to key financial matters, endorsing the settlement of the previous season and the budget for the ongoing 2023/24 season by substantial margins. This show of support signifies an essential step in FC Barcelona’s journey toward economic stability and sustainability.

For the settlement of the previous season, which had already been made public, the Assembly decisively voted in favor by a count of 376 votes for, 45 against, and 20 spoiled ballots. These results affirm the financial strength of the club, which managed to achieve after-tax profits of approximately 304 million euros. This sum significantly exceeded the 274 million euros originally anticipated in the budget a year ago, demonstrating commendable fiscal prudence.

Eduard Romeu, the Economic Vice President of the club, emphasized the significance of halting financial losses during the 2022/23 financial year. A pivotal achievement was the substantial reduction of debt, bringing it under 1.2 billion euros, and successfully reversing negative equity. Romeu stressed that this achievement contributes to the peace of mind of the club’s members, enhances credibility and solvency in the eyes of investors, and promotes a return to a normal financial fair play situation.

In figures unveiled for the 2022/23 season, the club generated an impressive 1.259 billion euros in revenue against 1.165 billion euros in expenditures. This effective management allowed for the continued reduction of net debt for the second consecutive season, decreasing from 680 million euros on June 30, 2021, to approximately 552 million euros on June 30, 2023. Commercial profits soared by 43%, totaling 351 million euros, while income from the club’s facilities surpassed expectations, reaching 229 million euros, a 14% increase over the budgeted amount. Additionally, the club received a significant boost from the extraordinary sale of 15% of audiovisual rights for men’s football, injecting 400 million euros into the club’s coffers.

Turning to the forecasts for the 2023/24 season, FC Barcelona anticipates ending the campaign profitably despite a reduction in income due to the move to the Estadi Olímpic. The commercial division is set to contribute substantially, with predicted income of 378 million euros, up from 351 million, and an increase in media income, rising from 215 million to 245 million. Expectations of progress in the Champions League, along with prudent cost containment measures, including a 27% reduction in the wage bill for professional teams, will further support this financial outlook. Additionally, the implementation of a viability plan aimed at improving internal efficiency and reducing costs at the Estadi Olímpic will play a crucial role.

Eduard Romeu underscored the club’s commitment to making difficult decisions to secure its financial future. Efforts to curtail salaries, both in the sporting and non-sporting realms, have been significant, ensuring that the budget for the wage bill remains at its lowest point in eight years. All these actions have been taken without compromising the quality of the squad, indicating prudent financial management.

Another important item on the agenda was the ratification of the agreement between FC Barcelona and TP Vision. The deal enables FC Barcelona to feature the Ambilight TV brand on the left sleeve of the men’s football first team jersey. This agreement received robust support from member delegates, with 326 votes in favor, 39 against, and 24 spoiled ballots.

TP Vision is renowned for designing, manufacturing, and selling Philips TV, Philips Sound, and AOC Audio products. The company has now become a crucial Main Partner for TV, Display, and Sound Devices within the FC Barcelona sponsorship ecosystem. Juli Guiu, Vice President for the Area of Marketing, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership with Ambilight and celebrated a record year in the commercial area with 20 new sponsors. He stressed that this collaboration would provide the necessary resources to apply cutting-edge technology not only at Spotify Camp Nou but also across all facilities utilized by professional sports teams.

Guiu further accentuated the club’s appeal to sponsors, citing Global Data as an example, and proudly stated that the current FC Barcelona shirt is the most valuable in the world of football. This recognition highlights the club’s global reach and enduring significance within the sports world.

The resounding approval of financial matters and strategic partnerships represents a pivotal moment for FC Barcelona as it charts a course towards fiscal stability, responsible growth, and continued success. The club’s unwavering commitment to making prudent financial decisions and securing valuable partnerships ensures a promising future.
