Andhra Pradesh Bandh News: A Vijayawada court remanded N Chandrababu Naidu in judicial custody for 14 days in an alleged multi-crore corruption scam.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by N. Chandrababu Naidu, has issued a call for a statewide bandh (a broad strike or shutdown) in Andhra Pradesh on Monday. The bandh is being organized in vehement protest against the arrest of the former chief minister in connection with a case involving the alleged misappropriation of government funds. Adding weight to this move, Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party (JSP) has also extended its support to the state bandh.

This development has triggered significant political tension in Andhra Pradesh, with the arrest of a prominent leader like Chandrababu Naidu amplifying the situation. The bandh serves as a potent expression of discontent and solidarity among these opposition parties, and its impact on the state’s political landscape is being closely watched.

1. TDP President’s Message:

The TDP’s Andhra Pradesh president, K. Atchannaidu, released a statement asking party members, the public, and civil society to actively join in the demonstration to ensure its success.

2. Arrest of Chandrababu Naidu:

In an alleged multi-crore corruption scheme, a local court in Vijayawada has detained Chandrababu Naidu in judicial detention for 14 days. According to Andhra Pradesh CID chief N. Sanjay, he was detained in connection with a fraud case involving the embezzlement of funds from the Skill Development Corporation, which purportedly resulted in a loss of 300 crore to the state government.

3. JSP’s Charges The Jana Sena Party’s:

chief, Pawan Kalyan, has accused the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) of indulging in “anti-social activities” in Andhra Pradesh. He also accused the YSRCP government of “harassing” opposition parties. In a statement, Kalyan urged JSP employees to take part in the bandh “peacefully.”

4. Relocation of Chandrababu Naidu:

Chandrababu Naidu has been transferred to Rajamundry Central Prison after being remanded in judicial detention for 14 days. In preparation of the former chief minister’s remand, substantial police security has been posted at the facility.

5. TDP Supporters:

Congregate While police were bringing the TDP chairman to the central jail, a large throng of TDP supporters gathered at the Vijayawada court grounds. To preserve peace and order within the city limits, Rajamundry Police implemented Section 144.

6. Prolonged Judicial Custody:

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Vijayawada has extended Naidu’s judicial custody till September 23.

TDP supporters in Visakhapatnam staged a hunger fast in response to the arrest of their leader.

According to the CID’s remand report, Chandrababu Naidu was “non-cooperative” throughout interrogation. Despite planning for a helicopter to transport him from Nandyal (where he was imprisoned) to Vijayawada, Naidu reportedly declined and instead to drive, experiencing protests from angry TDP members along the way.

10. Investigation Results:

The CID claims that its probe has revealed severe anomalies. It was revealed that prior to any expenditure by private firms, the then-state government granted an advance of 371 crore, representing the government’s entire 10% pledge. According to CID officers, the majority of this government-provided money was reportedly routed to shell businesses using forged invoices, with no actual delivery or sale of the commodities specified in the invoices.

Chandrababu Naidu’s detention in connection with alleged corruption in the Skill Development Corporation has provoked protests and a bandh declared by the TDP, with the JSP’s support. Andhra Pradesh’s scenario remains volatile as political rivalries and corruption charges take center stage.
