In a display of remarkable skill and teamwork, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s men’s and women’s swim and dive teams clinched a resounding victory in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual against UW-La Crosse over the weekend. The men’s team secured a commanding win with a score of 188.5-111.5, while the women’s team triumphed with a score of 156-144.

Head coach Annie Ryder commended the collective effort, emphasizing the pivotal role played by every individual in securing the win. “Today’s meet showcased a true team effort. Each swim and dive significantly contributed to our success. In a closely contested meet where every point matters, every member of our team played a crucial role. Their dedication, energy, and commitment to the team’s success were evident in every aspect, from their dives and swims to the unwavering support they provided to one another. Their passion and willingness to put in the hard work were truly commendable,” stated Coach Ryder.

The unbeaten streak in duals for both the men’s and women’s teams this season continued following these victories.

Notable among the men’s outstanding performances was Blake Wallen from Savage, Minnesota, whose exceptional display led to victories in both diving events. Wallen not only swept the three-meter but also scored significantly high on the one-meter, achieving an NCAA zone cut on the board.

The men’s team dominated in most swimming events, with athletes like Zhander Rowley, Sam Ryf, and Kadin Denner showcasing exceptional prowess. Denner’s remarkable feat included victories in the 100-yard backstroke, 500-yard freestyle, and 200-yard IM, in addition to contributing to the winning 200-yard medley relay team. Rowley swept the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, while Ryf secured wins in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard backstroke.

The women’s team mirrored the men’s success with a stellar performance in the swimming events, seizing eight victories. Elaina Plonis claimed wins in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly, while Kiara Bissen triumphed in the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard IM. Additionally, Ella Weaver clinched victories in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, bolstering the Blugolds’ position against a strong Eagles squad.

Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will return to the pool on Saturday, November 11. The men’s team will compete against St. John’s (Minn.) at 1 p.m., while the women’s team will participate in a triangular event alongside St. Catherine and Saint Benedict at 1 p.m. in St. Paul, Minnesota.
