Security personnel are involved in a risky and prolonged operation in the Anantnag area of Jammu and Kashmir. The operation is currently in its fourth day. Terrorists have hidden themselves deep beneath the hostile landscape in a cave located atop a difficult hill. The security troops are trapped between thick forests on one side and a perilous, steep ditch on the other, which adds to the difficulty of the situation. The committed men and women responsible for upholding peace and security in the region have faced an incredible struggle as a result of this hostile environment.

When the Army and police launched a coordinated expedition to find terrorists hiding in Kokernag’s Gadul woodland on a fateful Tuesday night, the operation got underway. Tragically, a soldier was reported missing, and three courageous officers perished while attempting to reach the terrorist lair on the crest of the hill.

In parallel, another conflict is taking place in the Baramulla neighborhood, where two terrorists have already been killed.

An Unforgiving Landscape

The terrorists have set up camp within a cave perched atop the hill since they are well-versed in the topography of the area. This hideout can only be reached via a treacherous, narrow path that is bordered on one side by a deep ditch. Tragically, the officers were trapped in an ambush along this same path and had nowhere to hide when the terrorists started shooting.

The stalemate has continued since that fateful day, with the soldiers forming a close circle around the hill. They have used Israeli-purchased drones to dump bombs while also deploying rocket launchers. However, their attempts to achieve total dominance have so far been foiled by the difficult terrain.

It is now considered that there may be more terrorists there than the two or three that were initially assumed to be there. These militants are motivated to avoid capture, well-trained, and well-equipped with food and ammo.

The Fallen Heroes

We lament the passing of three officers who displayed unmatched bravery and a dedication to their duty during this difficult war. Their tragic death serves as a solemn reminder of the difficulties our security forces must overcome.

The 19 Rashtriya Rifles Unit (19 RR) was commanded by Colonel Manpreet Singh, a renowned commander who received the Sena Medal for Valor. Within the 19 RR, Major Aashish Dhonchak, another recipient of the Sena Medal for Valor, served as company commander. Himanyun Muzamil Bhat has held the position of Deputy Superintendent (DySP) with the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

As Colonel Singh’s mortal remains were brought to his homeland in Punjab, the grieving people, both locally and nationally, bade a sad farewell to him. This brave man, a symbol of unshakable dedication and valor, was remembered by a sizable and solemn assembly as they paid their final respects.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the valiant security men on the front lines as the stalemate rages on in the center of Jammu & Kashmir. They travel across the most dangerous terrain while battling a prepared foe who is desperate to evade capture at all costs. Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Aashish Dhonchak, and DySP Himanyun Muzamil Bhat’s sacrifices serve as a reminder of the great bravery displayed by those who protect the security of our country.

The nation stands unified in support of our military during this protracted engagement, where every second is filled with risk and uncertainty. Future generations will be motivated by the remembrance of these slain warriors to uphold the virtues of duty, honor, and sacrifice that they so selflessly demonstrated.
